Out in NYC with my college girlfriends

{knarly knobs}
when i moved into a house with 5 college girlfriends 2 1/2 years ago, i had the opportunity to get real furniture and decorate much more than i did in my closet-of-an-apartment-bedroom. i purchased a 4 piece suite, but knew that my closet would not contain my wardrobe, thus i needed another chest of drawers.
my dad had an old wooden dresser that was less than desirable [straight out of 1980]. i had big dreams for this otherwise useless piece.
i don’t have a “before” picture, but the after turned out wonderfully. i painted the piece the same shade as i was painting 2 of my walls, the color of my duvet cover. i bought 10 funky knobs from anthropologie, 2 for each of the 5 drawers, each drawer with different knobs than the other drawers.
the finished product:

Emily from Cupcakes and Cashmere is also a fan of anthropologie’s knobs. check out how she incorporated them in her bathroom here:

the lady i used to babysit for had green ones on her butler’s pantry cabinets and in cabinets throughout the house! i love these creative touches!

{joys of antiquing}
today i bopped around the city looking at different antique and upscale consignment shops. slash i wanted to bust out the new camera in some of them…but the hipsters in the vintage shop seemed like they were judging me. i found an awesome antique shop:

there is so much i wanted but have no where to put it! i’ve been steadily consignment-hunting here lately, and even mimicked a “thrift project” by my favorite blogger, Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere. here is a look at a project she did in her apartment that i decided to do in mine. hers still wins, but i’m still proud.
hers:

…as heavenly as her.
and mine:

maybe i should leave interior decorating to nate berkus? i got the suitcases from thrift stores [i paid $2.99, $10, and $17.50 for them :)] the crystal vase was from an antique store, and the candle was from a consignment shop benefitting battered women in my hometown. the tray is not the one i want, and may be soon replaced with the one i prefer. does anyone have anything they love that came from a consignment shop/thift store/flea market/vintage nook? share some goodies!
